“One
common aspect of CCT’s summer musicals is that the maturity of the
company belies its age.
Another commonality is that over the years these shows have been
consistently good …
a staple of CCT’s summer musicals is the sheer melodic power of the
ensemble singing...
visually striking... stunning power. -- Dennis Thompson,
SNP Theatre Critic

SUNDIATA |
|
Based
on a 15th century legend from Mali in West Africa,
SUNDIATA is the story of a young boy, Djata, who must
learn responsibility and loyalty in order to free his
homeland from the oppressive sorcerer-king, Sumanguru.
Exiled as a baby, Djata lives with his mother Nana in a
hostile land. He behaves badly, has trouble speaking,
and walks only with crutches. One day Djata meets a
traveling peddler who recognizes Djata as the rightful
heir to the throne. She helps Djata discover his
strength and the soul of his heritage so that he can
return to his land and overthrow the king. Using a
traditional storytelling technique, SUNDIATA opens a
door on a little-remembered golden age of African
history. |
