For Schools
Touring Company
Columbus Children's Theatre's Professional Touring Company has been bringing live theatre to schools, libraries and small theatres throughout Ohio for over 40 years. Made up of 4 professional actors, the Touring Company performs over 250 shows each year beginning late September through the end of May. Always filled with humor, our plays are fairytales with important life lessons, stories about prominent historical figures and some which are written by children (Child Writing Project).
Through our workshops, performances and online study guides we are sure to inspire and capture your students’ imagination and appreciation for the theatre arts.
Child Writing Project
In 1983, in cooperation with the Columbus Public Schools, Columbus Children’s Theatre embarked on a remarkable new program called the Child Writing Project (CWP). It is a successful, hands-on, interactive program which has impacted thousands upon thousands of children for more than 25 years. By working directly with teachers and administrators in elementary schools the project not only encourages and stimulates the writing process in young people, it provides needed exposure to live theatre. The project encourages writing within schools and serves as a vivid demonstration for teachers and students of the process "from the written page to the stage". Students in grades K-6 are encouraged to write scripts, songs or poems and submit them to Columbus Children’s Theatre. Approximately 16-20 entries will be selected and produced as the next CWP play which will then be performed as part of the Touring Company’s Season.
